"This extraordinary cuvée hails from a vineyard first planted in 1871. Rooted in fawn-coloured sands, the plot remarkably withstood the phylloxera outbreak that swept through French vineyards in the late 19th century.
Perched on the village’s highest slope and overlooking the Monastery, this 48-are vineyard thrives on an exceptionally well-drained terroir, with sandy soils extending over two metres deep.
A living remnant of the Pyrenean foothills’ biodiversity, the vineyard is dominated by Tannat, alongside a solitary Pinenc vine and a few ancient white varieties, which are not included in this cuvée. In times past, families cultivated their own “vineyard gardens,” blending local grapes to make the refreshing house wine.
Nestled among century-old fig trees and trained as high vines, it has almost certainly always been supported by a single wire. Each vine requires attentive, tailor-made care: some are allowed just two clusters, others four or five, ensuring the utmost quality from every plant.
According to Olivier Bourdet-Pees, CEO of Plaimont Producteurs and the driving force behind this exceptional wine, the “Vignes Préphylloxériques” cuvée stands as a powerful symbol of the remarkable genetic heritage of the Saint Mont appellation.
Together with the 2012 listing of the Sarragachies plot as a Historic Monument and the ongoing work of the grape conservatory since 2002, this cuvée embodies a long-term commitment. For generations, the men and women of Plaimont Producteurs have devoted themselves to preserving a unique botanical heritage, safeguarding the character and future of the Pyrenean foothills’ appellations

Vignes Préphylloxériques
Outside of standard references, this confidential cuvée is the fruit of a Tannat vineyard jealously preserved since 1871.
Production is limited to around 1,500 numbered bottles per year, available by subscription through traditional distribution channels in France and abroad. Tasting notes may vary according to the vintage.
The deep, dense colour, with beautiful rich violet highlights, reflects the full complexity and elegance of this great wine.
On the nose, blackcurrant and redcurrant aromas explode, evoking the character of the greatest wines.
On the palate, it is fresh and irresistibly smooth, a luscious treat embraced by gently integrated tannins. While ready to be savoured now, its lively, zesty backbone promises a bright future ahead.
The Vignes Préphylloxériques calls for the most exquisite pairings, such as braised veal sweetbreads with heirloom vegetables. Made for the grandest occasions, it bears witness to a singular and remarkable ampelographic heritage."
